In many ways there are two different options markets: there are the options markets on which average investors participate, and then there are options markets where institutional investors participate. Technically, options are traded on the same market, but the techniques and strategies that institutional investors deploy are very much more complex than those used by individual investors.
You might, for example, give a homebuilder $5,000 with the understanding that you have the right to buy a home that they are building at any time in the next three years. Should you back out of the purchase of the home, the builder keeps both the home and the $5,000, but you save the money you might have otherwise spent on the home. If you follow through with the deal, you then have the right to purchase a home at the price stated in the contract.
Hit the Ground Running Options are considered risky investments because they are essentially leveraged investments. While this may be alarming at first, consider that this also means that small investors can effectively own a large portfolio of stocks with only a modest investment. Stocks in the $50 price-range, for example, often have options premiums ranging from $.05 to $1, meaning that one contract of 100 shares costs anywhere from $5 to $100, compared to $5,000 for a purchase of straight stock.
Many options traders sustain themselves by exploiting these two basic market phenomena. Since the price of options rise when predicting the future movement in stock prices becomes less certain, investors of all types can make money by playing very simple volatility strategies. If the markets are calm and cool, investors would be wise to snap up every option available, and hope that a larger daily range in the price of each stock buoys the general level of option premiums. This concept is the basis of the VIX volatility index, which determines the relative level of expected volatility by evaluating the changes in options premiums on the options contracts for the 500 stocks in the S&P 500 index.
Stocks vs. Stock Options When traders buy and sell stock options they seek not to buy or sell stock. Instead, they are buying and selling the right to buy and sell stock at a certain price. The best example here is one many will experience, regardless of their financial background: purchasing a home. It is common to see that investors and first time homeowners alike place what are essentially options on the right to buy a home when they offer a small down payment for first consideration on new homes being built in a specific neighborhood.
Should you have any experience in stock trading, options trading is the next logical step. Consider opening a demo account to “paper trade” the options markets to test your strategies. Alternatively, investors with more risk capital should consider opening an options account and having at it. Whereas “paper trading” allows investors to test their skills without risking their own money, trading with real money requires that new options traders experience something most will never experience in their paper accounts: the emotional influence of rising and falling account balances.
Notice how much of the language is similar here: contract, options, and time. These elements, which are part of the very basic process of buying a home, illustrate better the relationship between stocks and options than any other market.
One prerequisite to a profitable career in options trading is an understanding of stock trading. Unless you understand how stocks rise and fall in value, then you can’t possibly begin to understand how stock options—a derivative of individual stocks—rise and fall. However, stock options, being the complex investment instrument that they are, bring in another variable that doesn’t much matter with stock picking: time.

I really enjoy this app and the tremendous amount of both technical & fundamental detail it provides. Researching stocks via the app truly helps me to make an educated decision as whether to buy, hold or sell a stock... Its a great place to "one stop shop" for stock research... Love it!
I used to love this app, but it's now not as great with the ad banner they added at the bottom of the screen. I could see why if the app was free, but I paid for it. Smh.
We are actively developing our app with new features. Hope you like them. :)1. Enhance smart watchlist with intelligent alert push notifications. You are able to receive messages of SEC filing, insider trading, dividend, earnings, etc on your devices for stocks in your smart watchlist.2. Add "Market News" in "Market" view. You can easily read financial news for the whole market.3. Enhance news, live and fast. Tap individual news tag to switch corresponding contents. 4. Optimize Portfolio, Market Index, My Watchlist (simple style), and Alert History.5. Fix an issue of company name mismatch in Watchlist. (Please go to "Me" -> "Settings" and tap "Clear Cache" first.) 6. Improve "Research" view loading.7. Overall improvement.
It has lots of good features however the speed of pulling data is low some time. Unlike some other apps, you can not rank your watchlist by earning date. If I able to rank my watchlist earning date, I will give it 5 star. Also the upgrade banner at bottom bothering me a lot. I paid lot for this app, so I expect no advertisement what so ever. I like that they put all features like technical trading and options data, and earning calendar together. It has lots of value. Hopefully they fix some of the issues soon.

In order to raise capital, companies go "public" with an offering to sell shares of stock in their company for a set price. The price and number of shares are determined prior to their IPO (initial public offering) and the company who is selling their shares receives that money raised in the IPO (number of shares x price per share less underwriting fees). These shares are then sold and traded on an exchange such as the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) or NASDAQ. Investors then use these Exchanges to buy and sell stock in companies they are interested in.
Wanting to know how the Stock Market Works?
When investors buy shares of a stock, it takes the shares away from the amount available to other investors so the price goes up. It is a similar concept as the economic model of supply and demand, in that the price goes up as supply gets smaller and the price goes down if there is more supply. So as more and more people sell their stock in a company, the stock price goes down. If there are more buyers than sellers in a specific stock, that company’s stock price will go up. It’s important to understand that trading stocks is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Taking control of your finances will require some work building your knowledge and experience. About 40 million years ago, the Simiiformes infraorder split into the parvorders Platyrrhini (New World monkeys—in South America) and Catarrhini (apes and Old World monkeys—in Africa). 10 The individuals whose descendents would become Platyrrhini are currently conjectured to have migrated to South America either on a raft of vegetation or via a land bridge. There are two possible rafting routes, either across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa or across the Caribbean from North America. However, there is no fossil record to support the hypothesis of a migration from North America. The land bridge hypothesis relies on the existence of Atlantic Ocean ridges and a fall in the sea level in the Oligocene. This would have either produced a single land bridge or a series of mid-Atlantic islands to act as stepping stones for the migration. The latter is now the favorite choice. 11
Platyrrhines also differ from Old World monkeys in that they have twelve premolars instead of eight; having a dental formula of 220.127.116.11.1.3.3 or 18.104.22.168.1.3.2 (consisting of 2 incisors, 1 canine, 3 premolars, and 2 or 3 molars). This is in contrast with Old World Anthropoids, including gorillas, chimps, bonobos, siamangs, gibbons, orangutans, and most humans, which share a dental formula of 22.214.171.124.1.2.3. Many New World monkeys are small and almost all are arboreal, so knowledge of them is less comprehensive than that of the more easily observed Old World monkeys. Unlike most Old World monkeys, many New World monkeys form monogamous pair bonds, and show substantial paternal care of young. 8 They eat fruits, nuts, insects, flowers, bird eggs, spiders, and small mammals. Unlike humans and most Old World monkeys, their thumbs are not opposable 9 (except for some Cebids).
At the time the new world monkeys split off, the Isthmus of Panama had not yet formed, ocean currents and climate were quite different, and the Atlantic Ocean was less than the present 2,800 km (1,700 mi) width by about a third; possibly 1,000 km less, based on the current estimate of the Atlantic mid-ocean ridge formation processes spreading rate of 25 mm/year. citation needed
New World monkeys are small to mid-sized primates, ranging from the pygmy marmoset (the world's smallest monkey), at 14 to 16 cm (5.5 to 6.5 in) and a weight of 120 to 190 g (4.2 to 6.7 oz), to the southern muriqui, at 55 to 70 cm (22 to 28 in) and a weight of 12 to 15 kg (26 to 33 lb). New World monkeys differ slightly from Old World monkeys in several aspects. The most prominent phenotypic distinction is the nose, which is the feature used most commonly to distinguish between the two groups. The clade for the New World monkeys, Platyrrhini, means "flat nosed". The noses of New World monkeys are flatter than the narrow noses of the Old World monkeys, and have side-facing nostrils. New World monkeys are the only monkeys with prehensile tails—in comparison with the shorter, non-grasping tails of the anthropoids of the Old World.
A Bayesian estimate of the most recent common ancestor of the extant species has a 95% confidence interval of 27 million years ago-31 million years ago. 13
New World monkeys are the five families of primates that are found in the tropical regions of Central and South America and Mexico: Callitrichidae, Cebidae, Aotidae, Pitheciidae, and Atelidae. The five families are ranked together as the Ceboidea, the only extant superfamily in the parvorder Platyrrhini. 3 Platyrhini means flat-nosed, and their noses are flatter than those of other simians, with sideways-facing nostrils. Monkeys in the family Atelidae, such as the spider monkey, are the only primates to have prehensile tails. New World monkeys' closest relatives are the other simians, the Catarrhini ("down-nosed," comprising Old World monkeys and apes). New World monkeys descend from African simians that colonized South America, a line that split off about 40 million years ago. 4

But Dr. Neil Stone, lead author of the cholesterol management guidelines, said the risk percentage number was merely a jumping off point for discussions between physicians and patients about appropriate individual therapy.
“These guidelines have been vetted by multiple experts many, many times,” AHA President Dr. Mariell Jessup said.
Cook is a biostatistician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is a professor at Harvard.
The guidelines were created by panels of experts from the AHA and the American College of Cardiology and include a formula for calculating the risk of developing heart disease over 10 years. They only used data from studies undertaken through 2011 and said they would begin updating the guidelines next year to include more recent findings.
“We got his review and he did not say anything about these three population studies at that time,” Goff said.
Dr. Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, a cardiologist with the Mayo Clinic who was not involved in the guidelines, said he hopes Ridker will provide the guidelines committee his data soon and that AHA and ACC will provide their joint response without delay.
“We intend to move forward with the implementation of these guidelines,” said Dr. Sidney Smith of the University of North Carolina, a past president of the AHA who was executive chairman of the guidelines committee.

To trade options, I use a basic strategy. If the market is going up, I buy calls or sell puts. If the market is going down, I sell calls or buy puts. I prefer to be a seller of options rather than a buyer; however, there are some equities that move well enough in a day that buying the option pays better than selling the option and waiting for it to deteriorate. Apple is a good example of this. Apple is one of the stocks that track very well with the E-mini (for this reason I will use it as an example in this article). Chart 2 shows a daily chart of Apple (AAPL) and the E-mini (@ESM9). Though stocks have individual news and can move more at times (or less), they will generally trend with the E-mini.

I rarely come across a trader that has not traded options. Options strategies come in many shapes and forms, but they are all intended to do one thing: make money. I’ve been trading since 1980 and was at one time one of the largest options traders in the brokerage industry until the crash of 1987, which brought a new realization that holding a leveraged position overnight could be devastating, and it was.
As stated earlier, I like to give the market the first hour of trading to get the “noise” out of the market. I then look at where the E-mini is trading based off of its open (up or down) and the overall direction of the market for the day, and see if Apple is trading in the same direction based off its open. If so, I will buy an at-the-money, or first strike out-of-the-money, call if heading higher, or put if heading lower. I then give the market 30 minutes to see if the direction I traded is right. If so, I place a stop at half of the value I paid for the option, i.e. – If I bought the option for $5.00, I place a stop at $2.50. If the market has turned and I am not getting paid, I will get out of the position and look for another opportunity later. If the trade is going in my direction, then I will reevaluate it at 1:00 pm CT (2:00pm ET). If the market reverses, then I get out. If the market continues in my direction, I stay with the trade and move my stop just to the other side of the open by about 10 cents and then look to re-evaluate the trade at 2:30 CT (3:30pm ET) before the market closes.
The majority of stocks (around 70%) will move in the same direction as the E-mini. Knowing this, by the time the U.S. opens at 8:30 am CT (9:30 am ET), I know if the majority of stocks will open down or up based on what the E-mini has done throughout the night. Once the U.S. market opens, the U.S. gets to “vote” on the direction of the world markets. Because of this, I like to give the market one hour before entering into an options trade. This gives the U.S. market time to digest the move of the world markets and any economic news that has been announced. Looking a Chart 1, you can see the direction of the world markets and how it affects the U.S. markets.
The S&P 500 future of the 1980’s was much different than the futures we know today. Because of the boom in technology over the past 15 years, most of the trading done today is all electronic as opposed to picking up the phone and calling a broker or the pit. And the economy of today is now global instead of being country specific. These factors have led the trading industry to look at the markets in a broader perspective where our markets will react with what happens in Europe or Asia.
