Observe the 6 by 6 Guideline In order to keep the amount of information in each bullet point concise and to keep the slide from looking cluttered, you should keep the six by six guideline in mind. It states that each slide should aim to have no more than six bullet points and each bullet point should aim to have no more than six words. I would not consider this to be a strict rule, but it is a good guideline that will keep your slides clean and concise.

Use a Consistent Style When using bullet points, make sure that they have a consistent style. This means that:

Know When NOT to use Bullet Points Increasingly, audiences are turned off by slides that contain nothing but a list of bullet points slide after slide. They are asking "What is relevant here for me to know in order to make a decision in my business?" Make sure you are also using visuals to convey the key points of your message. Visuals can be graphs, diagrams, pictures, videos or combinations of the above. If you want to know how to create persuasive PowerPoint visuals, check out my books Present It So They Get It and Select Effective Visuals.

Reveal the Key Idea Only A bullet point is supposed to be a short summation of the key point that you want to make. It should not reveal all you know about the idea, or there is nothing left for you to say. For each idea you want to convey, consider what the key point is and put that as a bullet point. Then add to the bullet point by the words that you speak during the presentation.

If you have sat through too many presentations where the presenter read the full text of their slides, you have probably wondered, "How can I avoid droning on and on and focus on just the key information that my audience needs?" One part of the answer is to create bullet points that you can expand upon. When using bullet points on a presentation slide, there are some key ideas that you should keep in mind.

A Bullet Point is Not a Sentence Too many times a presenter puts an entire sentence as a bullet point. This defeats the entire purpose of the bullet point, which is to convey the key point only. It also tends to lead to the presenter reading each bullet point. If you plan to just read each bullet point, save the audience the time by just e-mailing them your slides and they can read the points on their own.

Interact with users of your software by using their preferred language and idiom, i.e., Yes/No questions should offer Yes/No (or perhaps an alternative to No, such as Cancel).

I use booleans for true/false fields in databases. Some people use ENUM('true', 'false'), but thats not my preference. For programming languages, I always use true/false, even if setting it to 0 or 1 will work. And if the form requires 'yes'/'no', I still use booleans to represent the values, but display them as strings that are more logical.

Each month, over 50 million developers come to Stack Overflow to learn, share their knowledge, and build their careers.

It's a test for truth-hood. Is the value of age 5? Yes, it's true. Both "yes" and "no" would be fine for me, but the idea that the answer to the question "Is the value of age 5?" is "1" seems pretty counter-intuitive to me. Just because that's the typical binary representation of truth-hood doesn't mean it's a useful one at a higher abstraction.

1 or 0 for SQL. SQL has a boolean type for a reason. Also, in very large databases, it can effect performance.

true and false makes a lot more sense to me, in code - partly through familiarity, I'm sure. I suspect I'd get used to yes and no pretty quickly. 1 and 0 really doesn't work for me though.

Incidentally, an interesting twist to this, available in C#, is Nullable;

Uncertainty should be expressed in terms of scope, i.e., "that depends", which will be followed up by the question "on what?". I know developers who answer the question by copying and pasting just about every dependency they may need into every code file of a project as a 'using' statement. That's just sloppy, and please bother to alphabetize or at least group namespaces together.

For reasons including numerical stability and speed, it is generally advisable to avoid computing matrix inverses directly. Thus in many implementations, clever methods are used to obtain the required information without directly constructing the inverse, or even the Hessian.

In the binary system, each digit represents an increasing power of 2, with the rightmost digit representing 20, the next representing 21, then 22, and so on. The equivalent decimal representation of a binary number is sum of the powers of 2 which each digit represents. For example, the binary number 100101 is converted to decimal form as follows:

In 1854, British mathematician George Boole published a landmark paper detailing an algebraic system of logic that would become known as Boolean algebra. His logical calculus was to become instrumental in the design of digital electronic circuitry. 19

The phenomenon that the binary representation of any rational is either terminating or recurring also occurs in other radix-based numeral systems. See, for instance, the explanation in decimal. Another similarity is the existence of alternative representations for any terminating representation, relying on the fact that 0.111111… is the sum of the geometric series 2−1 + 2−2 + 2−3 + ... which is 1.

The Song Dynasty scholar Shao Yong (1011–1077) rearranged the hexagrams in a format that resembles modern binary numbers, although he did not intend his arrangement to be used mathematically. 4 Viewing the least significant bit on top of single hexagrams in Shao Yong's square and reading along rows either from bottom right to top left with solid lines as 0 and broken lines as 1 or from top left to bottom right with solid lines as 1 and broken lines as 0 hexagrams can be interpreted as sequence from 0 to 63. 6

In keeping with customary representation of numerals using Arabic numerals, binary numbers are commonly written using the symbols 0 and 1. When written, binary numerals are often subscripted, prefixed or suffixed in order to indicate their base, or radix. The following notations are equivalent:

In mathematics and digital electronics, a binary number is a number expressed in the binary numeral system or base-2 numeral system which represents numeric values using two different symbols: typically 0 (zero) and 1 (one). The base-2 system is a positional notation with a radix of 2. Because of its straightforward implementation in digital electronic circuitry using logic gates, the binary system is used internally by almost all modern computers and computer-based devices. Each digit is referred to as a bit.

Binary is also easily converted to the octal numeral system, since octal uses a radix of 8, which is a power of two (namely, 23, so it takes exactly three binary digits to represent an octal digit). The correspondence between octal and binary numerals is the same as for the first eight digits of hexadecimal in the table above. Binary 000 is equivalent to the octal digit 0, binary 111 is equivalent to octal 7, and so forth.

Since there are only two digits in binary, there are only two possible outcomes of each partial multiplication:

The Binary Options Experts’ tutorial goes on to illustrate how a usual trade would go: “You choose to invest $100 in a call option that will end in 30 minutes. You cannot exit the trade or cash out before this time. If the price at expiry is higher than the strike price, you gain $70; if it’s lower, you lose $90. On the occasion that the price at expiry equals the strike price, you may or may not get your entire amount back; it really depends on the rules laid down by your broker.”

What exactly does binary options trading involve? How are trades initiated? What do “put” and “call” options mean? These and a few more questions were recently addressed by The Binary Options Experts in a bare bones tutorial on the trading consultancy firm’s website. The latest post aims to deliver some of the more basic fundamentals of trading binary options and tells new players in the market that learning about such information is critical to making competent decisions.

If price is uptrending, we’re looking for bullish pin bars, and bullish rejection against the first moving average. Then we’re looking for an oversold, or under 20, confirmation on the stochastic.

Welcome to the first video in our Binary Options 300 series. This is Binary Options 301, 60 Second Options– Price Action.

There are two reasons for this. One, I believe price is a bit more random on 60 second charts rather than, say, hourly charts. And also, trading 60 second options, you may be opening more positions in a day, in a week, when compared to higher time frame trading. So it’s good to keep your stakes low, and trade a minimal percentage of your capital when trading 60 second options.

We’re looking at yesterday’s price action. And we want to identify clear supports and resistance over the 24 hour period. So first of all, we have this clear push in the upside, and then reversal. So we have a resistance here. And we just mark all this with a horizontal line. This area was also resistant earlier on in the day.

So this is the start of trading on this one-minute chart. Price comes on the downside. And we have this big pin bar against this support. Our stochastic is showing as oversold. So we have an opportunity there to place a call option. Our pin bar touches and actually goes through the supports, and price goes on the upside in the next 60 seconds. So we have a winning trade there.

Every option has an expiration that’s set by the trader and this can range from 30 seconds to as long as one year (365 days). In the event the option moves in the direction choose by the trader by the expiration he or she will win a profit payout of 75%-97%.

For most people, learning about stock options is like learning to speak a new language, which requires wrestling with totally unfamiliar terms. But if you already have some experience with stock options, understanding the language of options on futures becomes easy. In fact, basic concepts such as delta, time value and strike price apply the same way to futures options as to stock options, except for slight variations in product specifications, essentially the only hurdle to get passed.

As for other options on futures markets, you'll need to get familiar with their product specifications - such as trading units and tick sizes - before doing any trading. Having said that, however, I am sure you will find that becoming fluent in a second options language is not as difficult as you might initially have thought.

The same but reverse logic applies to the S&P put options in Figure 3. Here we see the put option prices declining with a rise in the Jun S&P futures. The nearest-the-money option has a strike price of 1000, and its price fell by $600. Meanwhile, the farther-from-the-money put options, such as the option with a strike price of 925 and delta of -0.04, lost less, a value of $225.

In this article, we provide an introduction to the world of S&P 500 futures options that will reveal to you how easy it is to make the transition to options on futures (also known as commodity or futures options), where a world of potential profit awaits.

Stock Index Options on FuturesThe first thing that probably throws a curve ball at you when initially approaching options on futures is that you may not be familiar with a futures contract, the underlying instrument upon which options on futures trade. Recall that for stock options, the underlying is the equity issue (e.g. IBM call options trade on IBM stock). Since most investors understand how to interpret stock prices, figuring out the underlying is easy.

Important Differences and CharacteristicsThere is, however, a key difference between futures and stock options. A $1 change in a stock option is equivalent to $1 (per share), which is uniform for all stocks. With S&P futures, a $1 change in price is worth $250 (per contract), and this is not uniform for all futures and futures options markets. While there are other issues to get familiar with - such as the fair value of S&P futures and the premium on the futures contract - these related concepts are insignificant in practice and for what you need to understand for most option strategies.

When learning futures options, on the other hand, traders new to any particular market (bonds, gold, soybeans, coffee or the S&Ps) need to get familiar not only with the option specifications but also with the product specifications of the underlying futures contract. These, however, are insignificant obstacles in today's online environment, which offers so much information just a click away. This article will hopefully interest you in exploring these exciting markets and new trading opportunities. (For more background knowledge, read Understanding Option Pricing.)

If you've ever studied a second language, you know how hard it can be. But once you learn, say, Spanish as a second language - learning Italian as a third would be much easier since both have common Latin roots. To get facility with Italian as a third language, you would need only to grasp minor changes in word forms and syntax. Well, the same could be said for learning options. (To learn the basics, read our Options Basics Tutorial.)
