Double-check that you can’t do better: With thousands of stocks listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ, you should be able to find a listed stock you’d like to invest in.
Just a small amount of hype or negativity can have a large effect on a penny stock’s share price. A stock has to move only from one penny to two pennies to double a fraudster’s money.
Penny stocks, due to their tiny share prices, allow online investors to buy large numbers of shares. Owning large chunks of stock is appealing, but penny stocks can also be easily manipulated. Unlike giant stocks like Exxon or Microsoft, which are so valuable that you’d need billions of dollars to budge the stock, penny stocks can be nudged with just a few hundred bucks.
Read the warnings from regulators: The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has released multiple warnings to investors about investing in penny stocks. You can search for a company’s name and officers using the tools at the SEC’s main site to see whether prior problems have occurred.
Many penny stocks also trade on the generally unregulated Pink Sheets and OTC Bulletin Board markets, considered to be the Wild Wild West of online investing. It’s best to avoid investing in penny stocks, but if you can’t resist the urge, follow these guidelines:
The OTC Bulletin Board offers similar information on its stocks. The site, for instance, has a Delinquency/Eligibility list showing companies that haven’t met its standards.
Do your due diligence: You should, at the very least, see whether the company has released any financial statements. And if financial information is available, you should carefully analyze it. StockPatrol also features in-depth investigative reports of companies, including many penny stocks. StockPatrol’s search feature can show you whether a stock you’re interested in has been written about. Just reading the stories, meanwhile, can give you an idea on how to investigate penny stock companies.
Check the company’s level of disclosure: otcMarkets rates companies with one of eight icons that indicate how much information they provide to investors. The highest-quality rating is otcQX, followed by Pink Quote OTCBB, OTCBB Only, Pink Sheet Current Information, Limited Information, No Information, Grey Market, and then Caveat Emptor.

Raccoon Relocation Project Day 9 – Why Didn’t Someone Tell Me?
His love life finally fell into place in November 1996, when a friend set him up on a date with Debbie Fong, a vivacious Chinese-American who was getting her master’s degree at Southern Connecticut State University. “It was set up without any pressure,” she says. “We hung out, got to know each other, and he called me.”
The show, in turn, has given Carpenter a shot at the big time. SNL was only the beginning of the media onslaught. There was Good Morning America last Monday, followed by Live! with Regis & Kathie Lee and Philbin’s presentation of the $1 million check—but not before asking Debbie, “So, what’s it like, sleeping with a millionaire?” There was a press conference for the entertainment shows such as Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood, then a turn on the Late Show with David Letterman that Carpenter won’t soon forget. “Tony Bennett stopped by my dressing room and told me Friday night was the best thing he’d ever seen on TV. I was just floored. What a gentleman.”
That swagger was hardly apparent in childhood. In 1969, working for the V.A., Tom Carpenter moved his young family around from Virginia to Baltimore; Pittsburgh; Franklin, Mass.; Lawrenceburg, Ky.; and Northampton. John was a shy, extremely bright kid who, by first grade, boasted an eighth-grade reading level. “He’d read anything with words,” recalls his mother.
They have already spoiled their first baby, a 7-month-old part-toy, part-teacup poodle. “Fenway doesn’t know he’s having steak from now on,” says Debbie, who agreed to the name “so that future children cannot now be named Fenway.”
Carpenter, a TV sports nut, showed his romantic side when he proposed. “He got up and said, ‘Let’s go hiking,’ ” Debbie recalls. “I was like, ‘Isn’t there a football game on?’ He goes, ‘No, let’s go hiking.’ And I go, ‘John, are you okay?’ So we went, and he proposed to me at the top of Sleeping Giant Mountain in Hamden.” They married in September last year. “We interlock so well, I knew it was just a matter of time,” says Debbie. “A banker and an IRS agent. We’re fun at a cocktail party!” she says, with a smile that very well may be ironic.

Hegemony is the political, economic, ideological or cultural power exerted by a dominant group over other groups. It requires the consent of the majority to keep the dominant group’s leader in power. While initially referring to the political dominance of certain ancient Greek city-states over their neighbors, the term has come to be used in a variety of other contexts, in particular Marxist philosopher Antonio Gramsci’s theory of cultural hegemony, the term is often mistakenly used to suggest brute power or dominance, when it is better defined as emphasizing how control is achieved through consensus not force. As he stated in the book of John Storey, Popular Culture (p.119) :
Hegemony is used to refer to a condition in process in which the dominant class(es) doesn’t merely rule but leads a society through the exertion of moral and intellectual leadership. In this sense it suggests a society in which there is a high degree of consensus, a large measure of social stability, in which subordinate classes appear to actively support and subscribe to values, ideals, objectives, cultural meanings, which bind them to, incomporate them into, the prevailig power structure.

Doug's best chance is Christian Hanover, a somewhat unscrupulous billionaire. Christian considers the proposal and asks Doug to "take care" of his mistress, Andy Hart, a perfume saleswoman. Doug pretends to date Andy so that she can get close to Christian without his wife suspecting.
In the end, after Doug and Andy marry, he gets a call from Harry Wegman, who has accidentally been sent Doug's business plan by a senile member of the hotel staff Doug refused to fire and has decided to put up the $3 million that Doug needs.
Doug learns that Christian is deceiving Andy about getting a divorce. But because his hotel proposal is urgent and Andy is old enough to make her own decisions, he doesn't intervene. However, as he and Andy spend time together, he develops feelings for her.
Andy learns that a document Christian has asked Doug to sign was intended to permit the billionaire to take over the hotel project and force Doug out. Christian reveals that an IRS agent who was tailing Doug about the real estate property he (Doug) bought until he (Christian) and his lawyers took care of it was actually working with Christian to get the property. Christian smugly tells Andy that the project was going to make a fortune and he wasn't going to share it with a mere concierge. Andy abandons him for Doug, who is chasing after her. After the two reunite at the Queensboro Bridge and reveal to each other about the deception, Doug never signed the document, so Christian can't take over the property.
Doug Ireland is a concierge at the Bradbury, a luxurious hotel in New York City. Doug is very well-connected and is very good at his job, giving personal attention to guests like Harry Wegman while occasionally pocketing a big tip. Doug's dream is to open his own hotel on Roosevelt Island. He has saved every cent and obtained an option on an old hotel. But he only has a few weeks to begin development and needs at least $3 million immediately to start or the development goes back to the city.

A first remark is that when people count in thousands, or millions as a unit, this is still considered decimal, because these are powers of 10. So one might wonder why octal or hexadecimal should not be considered just a variation on binary. One possible reason may be the number of symbols used to represent numbers (though that is disputable issue, as we shall see with other systems).
Then, regarding humans, they using several system in base 5, called quinary systems. Actually, most of these system are with two bases, the second one being 2 or 4, alternating with the base five, which makes them equivalent to base 10 (decimal) or base 20 (vigesimal). Guess where that comes from :)
So, say you need a 64 bit memory addresses. You can either look at all 64 binary bits, or get it condensed to 16 hex digits. Often you don't need to compare a few addresses to see if their the same or contiguous. Would you rather look at 64 bits or 16 digits?
