Marketsworld is owned and operated by Markets The World Ltd, an Isle of Mann registered and regulated binary options broker. The company is located in Burleigh Manor, Peel Road, Douglass, The Isle Of Mann, IM1 5EP, Great Britain. They can be reached through live chat, email at [email protected] and by phone, number +44 (0) 1624 679 022. If you don’t want use up your phone minutes or pay international rates they have fax as well. Marketsworld is regulated by the Isle Of Mann GSC, the Gambling Supervisory Commission, and is technically a casino but a casino offering safe binary options trading.

Let’s take a closer look into their regulation since GSC is probably new to most people: Marketsworld are regulated all right, but by a relatively unknown regulatory authority: the Isle of Man GSC. After a little “investigation” I found out what GSC stands for: Gambling Supervision Commission and indeed, Marketstheworld Limited holds a GSC license since April 6, 2011. So they admit they are a gambling institution but although my first reaction as a trader would be to close the site and start looking for a broker, not a gambling agency, on second thought maybe the GSC regulation is better than no regulation at all. I’m not saying that complaining to the GSC would do you any good in case of a problem but at least it’s a legal authority and you have a fighting chance.

The Demo account rocks and I would give them a full 20/20 rating for the Extras… But the rest of the platform is so limited and elementary I had to take some points back.

One of the most consistent mistakes a significant minority of inexperienced investors make is being drawn to a type of common stock known as penny stocks. At first glance, the reasons for this (ultimately dangerous) appeal are legion but almost always come down to the fact that penny stocks appear to fluctuate tremendously in price, which, they convince themselves, should lead to an opportunity to generate a very high return quickly.

Under rare circumstances, former blue chip giants can fall from their lofty heights, becoming penny stocks. The last time this happened on a widespread scale was during the Great Recession of 2008-2009 when many financial institutions and investment banks went broke after being over-leveraged. Those that didn't go bankrupt but still wanted to retain some semblance of respectability were forced to undergo reverse stock splits to keep their share prices above the penny stock thresholds.

Unfortunately, as with all things in life, the truth is not quite so simple. In fact, it often turns out to be precisely the opposite as penny stocks can wipe out your savings in the blink of an eye.

The phrase "penny stock" is used to describe shares of a company that trade for very low amounts - typically, between $0.01 and $2.00 or so, though there are no specific hard and fast rules.

The opposite is true if you were a seller. If you had built up a position worth $10,000, you'd have to spend many, many days selling a tiny bit at a time unless you wanted to drive the price down substantially. Otherwise, you could put the entire block on the market for a much lower price - say, dropping it to $0.12 per share - and hope someone stepped in and bought it from you.

If you bought the shares at $0.15 this morning, then tried to sell them at $0.18 this afternoon, you probably couldn't have done it. The actual value of the total amount shares trading hands each day ranges, on average from $239.56 to $1,317.58. If you showed up with $5,000 or $10,000, you couldn't get your order filled without offering a price substantially above the current market because there aren't that many sellers out there waiting to dump their stock.

The reality of the situation is that there is no intelligent reason an investor needs to trade penny stocks or hold them in any type of portfolio. The risks are simply too great to offset any perceived benefits. While it may seem boring, a diversified, low cost index fund is a superior choice for many new investors. In practically all rolling 25 year periods, with dividends reinvested, such an investment philosophy has produced nominal pre-tax returns of almost exactly 10% per annum, leading to large increases in real wealth over time.

Some institutions consider penny stocks anything that trade for less than $5.00 per share. These companies often, but not always, have very small market capitalizations, little to no profits, and minimal operations. They almost always trade on the pink sheets or over-the-counter markets because no respectable stock exchange will permit them to be listed.

Editor: Thank you to Dani Schijveschuurder for providing updated information about the exam exemptions.

Prepare to pay fees to the ISA for everything, whether applying for an exam, applying for an exemption to the exam, applying for your license after passing the exams, and so on. Their email address is [email protected] and they can guide you towards any specific pages you will need and will answer any questions you will have.

Topics that may be covered on Miktzoet Aleph: It seems to be about 1/3 options (know your Greeks and Put-Call Parity well), 1/3 fixed-income, including calculations for duration, YTM et al, and a jumble of mutual funds, futures, equities and so on. Miktzoet Bet seems to be more heavily skewed towards Portfolio Allocation and understanding the global market environment. Be sure to be on top of your macro game and your understanding of all types of relationships between asset classes (e.g. changes in interest rates and duration).

Within this section are the requirements in order to receive one of the aforementioned licenses, and this information is taken straight from the ISA webpage. I will focus only on the Licensing for Individuals. Individual investment advisors can either be self-employed or employees of a licensed advisory firm or a commercial banking corporation. In contrast, portfolio managers are entitled to work solely as employees of licensed portfolio management firms.

The exams: It is critical to know that each of the exams are offered only twice a year, with a May/June sequence and November/December sequence. This means advance career planning may be required. Ethics and the other pre-requisites are given in the first month, and Miktzoet A and B are given the following month, within a few days of each other. Dates change sequence to sequence. Ethics is 25 and Miktzoet a 20 multiple choice question paper, whereas Miktzoet B is essay style, not necessarily 20 questions and can be answered in English. Otherwise, all exams are in Hebrew, with an option for an ISA-provided translator. At the time of this post, the translator costs 1500 NIS, and that will be divided by the number of examinees using him/her. Anyone using a translator will be tested in a separate room. Regarding the sequence of the exams, it seems that one cannot take Aleph and Bet until passing Ethics. As this can cause a 6 month delay in testing, unless the ISA agrees to change their sequencing, it is best to study adequately in order to guarantee passing the Ethics exam.

A question commonly asked may be; what is the difference between an IA and a PM? An IA can disseminate advice to clients but cannot act in a discretionary manner with client funds, but a PM has the discretion. It is important to pay attention to the semantic difference between PM in Hebrew and PM in English. A PM in the US, UK, etc is a fund manager, whereas a PM in the ISA lexicon is simply a Financial Consultant for individuals..

Studying for the exams: With the exception of Ethics, there is no English study material to be found for the ISA exams. Private teachers and self-study are the only options, but if you know the type of material that will be on the exam, that will be helpful. In my preparation for Aleph, which can be heavily quantitative, I watched many videos on the website It isn’t an MBA, but Sal intelligently touches on the basics of many related topics. There are two private tutors that I am aware of teach at Tel Aviv University: Shlomi Ben Yehuda, [email protected] and Tal Mofkadi, [email protected]

Exemptions: If you have a CFA, Series 7, MBA or another type of license from overseas, how can you leverage these into a license from the ISA?

You guessed it, I know: this article is focused on famous quotes, little nuggets of wisdom given to us by the ones who really made it in this business, the ones who are living the dream. And how much blunter can it get than the above quote. Ah, but if we could only follow rule number 1… things would be much easier for us. Unfortunately, saying it is easier than doing it… after all, not losing money is a tricky endeavor if you are trading on a regular basis, but Mr. Buffet is probably talking about not losing money in the long run, not about individual trades, because everybody loses a few trades here and there, even the best traders. And this reminds me of another famous trader who said:

“Rule number one of investing is never lose money. Rule number two is never forget rule number 1“ – Warren Buffet (net worth in 2013: $53.5 Billion).

“In this business if you’re good, you’re right six times out of ten. You’re never going to be right nine times out of ten.” – Peter Lynch (net worth in 2006: $352 Million). This statement backs up the idea that a Holy Grail of trading does not exist and no matter how much we search for it, we will never find it. Instead, traders must find inner balance and acceptance of losses but at the same time, they must be able to make the difference between the long run and the short run: it is perfectly normal to lose in the short run but to be successful in the long run. Stop looking for the Holy Grail and learn the regular, basic, down-to-earth stuff like RSI – Old School is Good School! or learn something about Japanese Candlesticks.

I find this next quote on the same note with what I just said: “It’s not whether you’re right or wrong that’s important, but how much money you make when you’re right and how much you lose when you’re wrong.” – George Soros (net worth in 2012: $20 Billion). In other words, he agrees with the idea of losing trades, but if we read through the lines we will see that he is emphasizing the importance of Money Management. This is not meant to be an educational article so I am not going into deeper detail about Money and Risk management, but if you notice Mr. Soros’ net worth, I am sure you agree with me that he must be doing something right so his advice is worth taking. So, you might want to take a look at our Binary Options Trading School section dedicated to risk management because if you are not educated, you might as well Donate your Money to Charity than trade Binary Options.

“You don’t need to be a rocket scientist. Investing is not a game where the guy with the 160 IQ beats the guy with 130 IQ.” – Warren Buffet. According to Forbes, Buffet is ranked the thirteenth most powerful man in the world so probably we should listen to what he’s saying. He may be right and you don’t need to be a genius to make some money in the market. Now that I think of it, we actually have an article on that subject. Make sure you don’t miss it: I’m Not Smart – How Can I Profit From Binary Options Trading?

And I just mentioned School… yes I did, because you cannot expect to make a living out of trading if you don’t educate yourself or if you are lazy. Just how Alexander Elder said, “Traders lose because the game is hard, or out of ignorance, or lack of discipline or because of both.” Indeed, the game is hard and I don’t think someone can hit it big in this business without mastering the three major components of trading: “Every winner needs to master three essential components of trading; a sound individual psychology, a logical trading system and good money management. These essentials are like three legs of a stool – remove one and the stool will fall, together with the person who sits on it.”This metaphor belongs to Alexander Elder as well and I must admit it’s one of my favorites because it sums up excellently everything what trading is all about. Just like you cannot sit on a stool with one or two legs, you cannot trade successfully without paying attention to all aspects involved: the trading system is not all you need; it has to be backed up by a proper mindset and… money management… yes, another famous trader talking about the importance of money management. They must be on to something. Wanna be part of the elite? Read The Secret Behind Binary Options Psychology and How to Avoid 5 Binary Options Mistakes.

Options are often seen as fast-moving, fast-money trades. Certainly options can be aggressive plays; they're volatile, levered and speculative. Options and other derivative securities have made fortunes and ruined them. Options are sharp tools, and you need to know how to use them without abusing them.

If Intel shares stay below $25 by the third Friday in October when the option expires, you keep the premium. The premium received also gives some downside protection — $140 compensates for a $1.40 drop in the shares, equivalent to a 5.5% decline in the stock.

"If you're confident about the future, buy a stock and take all the risk of owning a stock," Bittman said. "If you're more worried that the bull market might be ending, you could limit risk with options just like a homeowner limits risk by buying insurance."

The strike price of a put is the exercise price at which you'll sell the stock. Puts are more costly in volatile markets, when insurance is on everyone's mind. The right to sell your Intel shares at $25 in October, for example, will cost you about $75 now. That means your break-even point is $24.25 a share — the strike price minus the premium — or 3% on the downside. If Intel trades below $24.25 in October, and you can sell the stock for $25, that $75 premium will have paid off.

It's better to sign up with a brokerage that, while maybe not the cheapest, can connect you with options experts, such as you'll find at Schwab, E-Trade, TD Ameritrade and OptionsXpress, or a major Wall Street firm.

Of course, this doesn't come free. An option's value, and your profit potential, will be impacted by how much the stock price moves, how long it takes and the stock's volatility. You can be right on direction but run out of time, since options expire, and trading activity might not work in your favor. In addition, leverage cuts both ways.

For income-oriented investors looking to write covered calls, higher volatility equals a larger premium. But there's also a greater possibility that a stock will have big price swings that could go against you.
