When it comes to learning words, a hands-off approach may be in order. New research suggests toddlers pick up words better when they figure out their meanings rather than being told.
Of course, having too many distractions can make it hard to learn new words, as previous studies have shown. "Finding the sweet spot is a challenge," Zosh said. You need enough challenge to keep kids engaged and interested, she said, but not so much that it's too difficult.
The findings aren't totally unsurprising to developmental psychologist Jessica Horst of the University of Sussex in England, who was not involved in the study. "When children are learning words and categories, it's important not only to learn what something is, but what it is not," Horst told LiveScience.
Kids have a hard time learning when they are given too much information, but sometimes having a bit of context makes things easier. When children come across vocabulary for things they don't know, they use what they already know to infer what a new word might signify. Researchers found that toddlers retained new words better when they had to compare a known word and a new word than when simply given the meaning of a new word, according to a study published Jan. 23 in the journal Applied Developmental Science.

The results of the study don't mean that kids can only learn new objects by inference, Zosh said. But they may be more engaged when it's more of a game. Zosh plans to do a follow-up study on younger children, who might find learning by inference more of a challenge.

Click Add an Answer below the answer blank to add additional possible answers for one blank in the question.
However, if you would like to consider this as a correct answer, you can override the score.
Enterprise users can enable Allow video or audio answers for students to allow for audio or video recordings in question responses.
The student’s answer will then have a rubric score, which will be the sum of the scores on each criterion on the rubric out of the total number of possible points on the rubric. The rubric score will then be converted to an equivalent percentage of the question’s points to score the question.
All question types have the option to be timed questions. By checking this box, you can set a time limit, in minutes, to require that students answer a specific question within a set amount of time.
In order to generate a blank when creating this question type, type one underscore into the textbox. Each underscore in the text box will correspond to an answer blank below.
After the time limit passes, the test automatically goes to the next question. When a test/quiz has at least once question with a time limit, students no longer have the ability to review any of the questions before they submit. If students click the Back button in the browser to attempt to go back to the timed question after the time limit has passed, they will be forced to either start over (if multiple attempts are enabled) or submit the test/quiz prematurely.

Translation: The trader is short options. If implied volatility falls, the options he is short will fall in value and he will therefore profit.
So vega and implied volatility are definitely not the same thing but they are related. Vega tells us an option’s (or an option portfolio’s) sensitivity to implied volatility. Whereas implied volatility can be viewed as the price of options. But if you have say a long option position, you will be long vega and long implied volatility. You can make money in this situation from rising implied volatility because options have positive vega.
Translation: The trader owns some options and will profit from a rise in implied volatility.
Translation: Really the trader means implied volatility is cheap. Vega does not have a price as such. What he says would be understood by everyone else in the market, but technically is perhaps not 100% valid.

Every image that goes on your site deserves a name. But it also needs one if you want your page to rank well on search engines, which crawl your site not just for text, but also for keywords on images.
When it comes to naming your images, think about how you would search for the image. You would probably start with a simple, slightly descriptive keyword search, like “green rolling hills.” And hopefully, the search results would show images that match that description.
Ultimately, everything needs to be optimized for web — from your site template to the photos that people view. That’s why we put together some of the most important tips and tricks on how to optimize images for the web, whether it’s your website or a client’s blog. Start learning about image optimization for web content below!
Use the same school of thought when naming your own images, choosing detailed terms and separating each keyword with a hyphen, so that an image of green rolling hills might read, “green-rolling-hills-italy.jpg.”
Ways of Making Money Recycling
The single biggest financial mistake I’ve made was not thinking big enough. I encourage you to go for more than a million. There is no shortage of money on this planet, only a shortage of people thinking big enough.
The only reason to save money is to invest it. Put your saved money into secured, sacred (untouchable) accounts. Never use these accounts for anything, not even an emergency. This will force you to continue to follow step one (increase income). To this day, at least twice a year, I am broke because I always invest my surpluses into ventures I cannot access.
In today’s economic environment you cannot save your way to millionaire status. The first step is to focus on increasing your income in increments and repeating that. My income was $3,000 a month and nine years later it was $20,000 a month. Start following the money and it will force you to control revenue and see opportunities.

However, a subnet mask with this value has no practical purpose. Both the IP address and network mask are typically assigned 0.0.0.0 on a client.
This IP address is structured like a regular one (it has four places for numbers) but it's really just a placeholder address or one that's used to describe that there isn't a normal address assigned.
On Software Applications and Servers
It's easy to confuse 0.0.0.0 and 127.0.0.1 but just remember that an address with four zeros has several defined uses (as described below) while 127.0.0.1 has the one very specific purpose of allowing a device to send messages to itself.
Note: The 0.0.0.0 IP address is sometimes called a wildcard address, unspecified address or INADDR_ANY.

The bad news, however, is that pension providers also realize that there is a greater likelihood of making payments for a longer period of time with a joint pension payout – which is why the amount of the pension payments is typically reduced for joint and survivor pension payouts. For instance, continuing the earlier example, if Jerry’s pension offers a $50,000/year payment for the rest of his (individual) life, the payment might be reduced to $40,000/year as a joint payment over the combined lives of Jerry and his spouse.
Notably, though, while poor life expectancy significantly tilts the scales in favor of taking a lump sum, above-average life expectancy doesn’t necessarily mean that a pension will always be better. In some cases, the issue may be that one person’s life expectancy in a couple is above-average, but the other’s is not; in such cases, it may be better to take the single life pension payout, and buy life insurance with some or all of the higher payments, to protect the second spouse (a strategy often called “life insurance pension maximization” or “pension max” for short).
While there are several factors that go into the pension-vs-lump-sum decision, ultimately the trade-off can be boiled down to calculating the internal rate of return (IRR) of the promised pension cash flows, which reveals the “hurdle rate” of return that a lump sum portfolio would have to earn to generate to reproduce those same payments over the same time horizon. Of course, the longer the retiree is expected to live, the greater the number of anticipated pension payments, and the greater the portfolio hurdle rate will be.
Retirees who are eligible for a pension are often offered the choice of whether to actually take the pension payments for life, or instead to receive a lump sum dollar amount for the “equivalent” value of the pension – with the idea that the retiree could then take the money (rolling it over to an IRA), invest it, and generate his/her own cash flows by taking systematic withdrawals throughout retirement.
In some cases, a retiree may have reason to know that his/her life expectancy situation will likely vary from the general case. Perhaps the retiree already has some health complications that will reduce anticipated life expectancy, tilting towards the decision to take a lump sum. Or perhaps the retiree has longevity in the family – and is still caring for two parents in their 90s! – suggesting that his/her own life expectancy may be well above average. Notably, being above-average income/wealth alone tends to be correlated with a life expectancy a few years beyond that of the general population.
NEW SYSTEMS LIST – Updated 04/20/17:
Employee stock options have the following differences from standardized, exchange-traded options:
Over the course of employment, a company generally issues ESOs to an employee which can be exercised at a particular price set on the grant day, generally the company's current stock price. Depending on the vesting schedule and the maturity of the options, the employee may elect to exercise the options at some point, obligating the company to sell the employee its stock at whatever stock price was used as the exercise price. At that point, the employee may either sell the stock, or hold on to it in the hope of further price appreciation or hedge the stock position with listed calls and puts. The employee may also hedge the employee stock options prior to exercise with exchange traded calls and puts and avoid forfeiture of a major part of the options value back to the company thereby reducing risks and delaying taxes.
Black-Scholes may be applied to ESO valuation, but with an important consideration: option maturity is substituted with an "effective time to exercise", reflecting the impact on value of vesting, employee exits and suboptimal exercise. 13 For modelling purposes, where Black-Scholes is used, this number is (often) estimated using SEC Filings of comparable companies. For reporting purposes, it can be found by calculating the ESO's Fugit - "the (risk-neutral) expected life of the option" - directly from the lattice, 14 or back-solved such that Black-Scholes returns a given lattice-based result.
Stock option expensing was a controversy well before the most recent set of controversies in the early 2000s. The earliest attempts by accounting regulators to expense stock options in the early 1990s were unsuccessful and resulted in the promulgation of FAS123 by the Financial Accounting Standards Board which required disclosure of stock option positions but no income statement expensing, per se. The controversy continued and in 2005, at the insistence of the SEC, the FASB modified the FAS123 rule to provide a rule that the options should be expensed as of the grant date. One misunderstanding is that the expense is at the fair value of the options. This is not true. The expense is indeed based on the fair value of the options but that fair value measure does not follow the fair value rules for other items which are governed by a separate set of rules under ASC Topic 820. In addition the fair value measure must be modified for forfeiture estimates and may be modified for other factors such as liquidity before expensing can occur. Finally the expense of the resulting number is rarely made on the grant date but in some cases must be deferred and in other cases may be deferred over time as set forth in the revised accounting rules for these contracts known as FAS123(revised). 2
As of 2006, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) agree that the fair value at the grant date should be estimated using an option pricing model. Via requisite modifications, the valuation should incorporate the features described above. Note that, having incorporated these, the value of the ESO will typically "be much less than Black–Scholes prices for corresponding market-traded options...." 10 Here, in discussing the valuation, FAS 123 Revised (A15) - which does not prescribe a specific valuation model - states that:
a lattice model can be designed to accommodate dynamic assumptions of expected volatility and dividends over the option’s contractual term, and estimates of expected option exercise patterns during the option’s contractual term, including the effect of blackout periods. Therefore, the design of a lattice model more fully reflects the substantive characteristics of a particular employee share option or similar instrument. Nevertheless, both a lattice model and the Black–Scholes–Merton formula, as well as other valuation techniques that meet the requirements … can provide a fair value estimate that is consistent with the measurement objective and fair-value-based method….
At the time the options are awarded, GAAP requires an estimate of their value to be run through the P&L as an expense. This lowers operating income and GAAP taxes. However, the IRS treats option expense differently, and only allows their tax deductibility at the time the options are exercised/expire and the true cost is known.
